BES Assistant Principal - Mrs. Leigh Thompson
Welcome to Bedford Elementary School!
I am very excited to be serving as your Assistant Principal. It is my honor and privilege to work with Mrs. Bradt, our faculty and staff, as well as our families and community members to empower our learners for success now and in the future. Working together, I am confident that we will have a wonderful school year growing and learning together.
I began my teaching career in 2001 at Sandusky Middle School in Lynchburg, VA as a physical science and technology teacher. Then, I joined Bedford County Public Schools as the Director of School Counseling at Bedford Middle in 2008, where I spent 10 years helping students and their families navigate the middle school years. I earned my bachelor’s degree in biology from Roanoke College in 1995, a master’s degree in school counseling from Lynchburg College in 2008, and in 2015, a second master’s degree in educational leadership from Lynchburg College.
The elementary school years are critical foundation-forming years for students. Much of what students learn, academically and socially, will make an indelible imprint on their growth and development. As your Assistant Principal, I want to support that growth and development by facilitating a safe and respectful school environment, where all students will receive the best possible academic instruction. My goal is to empower students to take charge of their learning, to think critically, and work together to solve problems. These skills will enable them to be successful now as well as in their future career. I am proud to be a part of the Bedford Elementary community, where our students can learn and grow.
Please feel free to come by and introduce yourself, I am here for you, the school, and our community. If there is anything I can assist you with, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Leigh Thompson
